The Alma Road project is a compact three-bedroom, two-bathroom new build in Whanganui, custom designed by KV Homes to respond to both the clients’ brief and the unique characteristics of the site.

Although positioned on a large section, the home needed to be carefully located around a number of established fruit trees that the clients wanted to retain. Rather than clearing the site to suit a standard house plan, the home was designed specifically around the existing landscape, preserving the mature trees and their connection to the property.

The resulting design demonstrates how a well-considered compact home can make efficient use of its footprint while still providing everything required for comfortable modern living.

Designed for Back-Section Living

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom layout incorporates a single garage within a compact footprint, making the design particularly well suited to back sections and sites where efficient use of available space is important.

Every part of the floor plan was considered in relation to the site, allowing the home to work around the established environment while providing a practical and comfortable layout for the owners.

Clean Lines and Minimalist Design

The clients wanted a contemporary home defined by straight lines and a clean, minimalist aesthetic. This approach carries through to the exterior, where a combination of vertical BGC panels and pre-finished horizontal cladding creates contrast, texture and the appearance of natural timber.

The combination of materials complements the home’s simple architectural form while creating a modern exterior with warmth and character.
